Last week, Google announced a page rank update which saw most page ranks go down. This page rank has been seen as a penalisation update which will have an overall effect on all rankings.

This page rank update coincides with the Mayday Algorithm update that has been seen over the last few weeks. This update has seen many websites lose around 10 percent of their organic traffic through long tail key phrases.

This Mayday Algorithm change is an update that will see a lot of websites experience a reduction in long tail keyword traffic. As previously stated, this is about 10 percent but I think that this reduction will not affect the majority of sites and I think that they will see more traffic in other areas.

If you’re not aware, Google performs updates every day that affect speed and any ranking tweaks that have been acknowledged by Google. However, the bigger algorithm changes released only happen a few times a year. For example, the last notable change was around the turn of the year when they acknowledged that speed was a factor in the ranking positions.
